Privacy
What this site collects, which is almost nothing, and exactly who sees it.
I built this site to be read, not to build an audience out of the people reading it. So the short version is that I collect the least I can get away with while still knowing whether any of this is working.
Here is all of it.
No cookies, and nothing that identifies you
This site sets no cookies. There is no login, no account, no newsletter, and no tracking pixel. I have no way to tell who you are, and I have not built anything that would let me find out later.
What I do measure
I use Cloudflare Web Analytics. It records which page was opened, which site or search you arrived from, roughly which country you were in, what kind of browser and device you used, and how fast the page loaded.
It does not set a cookie, it does not fingerprint your browser, and it cannot follow you to any other site. It cannot tell that the person who read one page is the person who read the next one. What I see is counts.
I look at it for two reasons. I want to know which pages people actually reach, because a page nobody finds is a page I have written badly or buried. And I want to know when a page is slow, because half of this site is read on a phone.
Cloudflare serves that measurement script, so your browser makes a request to them when a page loads.
What my host sees
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like every web host, their servers log requests, and those logs include IP addresses for a short period. That is infrastructure rather than a choice I made, and I do not have a dashboard where I can look you up in it.
The three things stored in your browser
All three are set by this site, all three live in sessionStorage, and all three disappear when you close the tab.
Two remember that you have already seen a one-time hint, one on the Road and one on the star map, so they stop nagging you. The third records that a piece of the page failed to load, so it tries again once instead of looping.
None of them is an identifier. None of them leaves your browser.
Corrected 2026-08-21: this section said two and named two. The site sets three keys, and How It's Made said so — the two pages disagreed, and the privacy page was the one undercounting.
When you click a citation
There are thousands of outbound links here, because I would rather you check me than trust me. Some of them are pages you might not want traced back to you.
By default a browser tells the site you click through to exactly which page you came from. I have turned that off. A citation host learns that roadtomd.com sent someone and nothing about which page you were reading. What those sites do once you arrive is theirs, and I have no control over it.
Fonts, ads, and money
The fonts are served from this site, so your browser never asks Google for them. There are no ads, no affiliate links, no sponsorships, and no sold placements. Nothing here is measured against a commission, and I have never sold or shared data about readers with anyone, because I do not have any to sell.
If you email me
If you write to me, I have your email address and whatever you chose to tell me. I use it to answer you. I do not add it to a list, because there is no list.
Changes
If any of this changes, I will change this page and date it. If the change matters, I will say so plainly rather than editing quietly.
